T-Mobile customers on Monday became the latest batch of U.S. wireless subscribers to gain access to roaming service in Cuba when the Un-carrier announced a new interconnect and roaming agreement with Cuba’s telecommunications company, the Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba,

The deal will mean U.S. residents on T-Mobile will benefit from “more affordable” voice calls to family and friends in Cuba, while those traveling to the tiny Caribbean nation from this summer will be able to access data, voice, and text through roaming.

“The historic opening of Cuba is a natural opportunity for us to take action, and we are. That’s the Un-carrier way!” said T-Mobile CEO John Legere. “We have more customers of Cuban descent than any other wireless provider — so connecting them with family and friends in Cuba is a message we heard loud and clear!”

It’s good to see T-Mobile responding to the opening of Cuba by improving its services for customers, making it cheaper to contact people in Cuba and easier to stay connected if you decide to take advantage of Cuba’s opening.
